Makeup Travel Solution - Hold Me Bag Review

Hi Bellas,

I'm back with another review.  You all may know that when it comes to packing makeup, I'm pretty OCD about it all.  I'm always looking ways to consolidate my kit.  Additionally, I always try to simplify my personal  makeup packing process when I travel.  If you're looking for a personal makeup travel solution make sure to check out this review!

This review came just in time.  I had some travel coming up and needed an efficient way to pack my makeup and brushes.  Hold It Company contacted me and asked me to review their product and I decided to give it a true test run for my trip to the New York Makeup Show.

This is how it came in the mail, pretty right?

These aren't your average makeup travel bags.  Most in the market are typical makeup bags which are either clear or some sort of vinyl/polyester mix.  They look like large pencil cases and that's what we're all used to.

Being the researcher and product junkie I am...i've tried a million things.  I've tried pencil cases, makeup bags, hanging makeup organizers to small train cases.  In the past, I ended up defaulting to a simple, large MAC Makeup bag because it held everything and didn't take too much room.  The problem was that it didn't hold my brushes and I also often had to dig around a lot to find out what I was looking for.  Now comes the Hold Me Bag...

This case reminds me of the Zuca pouches but better!  It has the rectangular zip up makeup section along with a brush holder and it also ties up together in a nice and pretty package.
There are instructions on how to tie the knot to close the case.  It's really simple.
The bag is reminiscent of an old school book satchel.
It comes in a really nice, black "new suede" material.
You can lay the bag flat so that your brushes are open on one side and the makeup is in open view on the other.

The large rectangular compartment unzips to store makeup and tools.  It actually fits a lot!  Here's a shot of all the makeup I stored in there.
And here it is all sealed up.

Inside their is also a large pocket so you can securely hold a palette which is perfect so that no shadows are shaking around and breaking.  It fits a large Z Palette.

Theirs also a lining that can be removed to be cleaned.

You also get this really nifty brush holder.  This is the first kind i've seen with the different diagonal slots.  This is genius! You can hold brushes of multiple lengths in here - you fit more and you don't have to worry about some brushes being too long or short.

These are my actual brushes in here.  The last row is really tall which can be good so that it secures your fluffy brushes so the bristles don't get splayed.  The shorter rows in front are great for those teeny tiny brushes that usually get lost or hidden.

My Thoughts
I was a little concerned when I saw it...the material looked suede and I just pictured makeup just sticking to it.  However directions recommending using a gentle soap to wipe it clean.  I put some hand soap on a face towel and it really did wipe clean.

It's actually got a nice design.  I like how it models a school girl's notebook.  The soft "new suede" material is supposed to be super durable - off hand I liked how it was a soft case so it could squeeze into nooks and crannies of my luggage when I travel.

Here it is packed for my trip to the New York Makeup Show.  This is an actual shot from the hotel.  I did my makeup at the desk and left the makeup open like this.  You can see how all the makeup is accessible on the left and brushes on the right.  When I'm done I just close the covers and it protects everything.

PROS

  • Fits a lot of makeup
  • Fits a lot of brushes of varying size
  • Nice and sleek looking
  • String closure makes it easy to close no matter how bulky it gets
  • Easy to clean

CONS

  • Can get bulky
  • Shows dirt
  • A bit pricey - but for a quality makeup bag and brush holder in one I can see it being a little more

You can find this product at www.HoldMeCompany.com It retails for $55.  You can also find these at select retail locations such as Alcone, Makeup Mania and more,  Check out the list here.

LAst year I went to visit my family in london and when i arrived at my aunt house my suitcases were opened by TSA. They ransacked my makeup cases and just threw them back in the case. Thank GOD none of my compacts and shadows broke. Can You say ANGRY!!!

The worst experience I ever had was when I was using bare minerals foundation, and then I had loose eyeshadows in there as well. Well in the flight all the lids got loose and when I went to go put my makeup on and opened my bag all the eyeshadows were mised into my founddation, mineral veil, and other loose blushes. It was a disaster! I still like the foundation, but don't like travelling with loose powders anymore!! This bag would help keep me organized! Thank you!

I was traveling to a sweet 16 party for one of my cousins. I packed everything in my travel makeup bag (which is just a large makeup bag with no compartments). I didn't bring my brush roll thinking everything was sanitized and my brushes were clean. I arrived about 2 hours before the event, with 1 hr to get dressed and ready and another to commute. When I unzipped everything, my eyeshadow palette had shattered causing a giant mess not only all over everything but on my brushes. One of them was black shadows. I couldn't get everything cleaned in time to do my eye makeup, so I had to leave with just lipstick on. It was one of my favorite 15 pans too. I had to throw away the shadows and makeup bag bcus it was too dirty to clean and some had leaked out onto my other belongings in my handbag. I think it was the worst thing that has ever happened to me. Never again do I pack everything together!

So I would like to win because everything is compartmentalized and would save me the time in the long run (and mess) if anything should break or come loose.

Last time I traveled with my makeup I threw all my toiletries into one big pouch bag. When I got home my shampoo had opened & it was all over my makeup!Took hours to clean up.

When I travel, I like to carry on my makeup rather than checking it in. Usually I'll just put my 15 pan mac palette in the bag I'm carry on. The last time I did that my case cracked! Probably due to bags shifting on the air plane or what not. Some of my eyeshadows ended up cracking! =( I would like to win the Hold Me Makeup bag because it looks like it would hold all my makeup needs into one place and would hold it securely.

Perfume broke and it was in my make-up bag. Waaah. I would love to win this because it looks like an awesome travel solution.

I travel very 2-3x's a month and I find myself almost not wanting to wear any makeup because it's such a hassle to pack everything & make sure nothing gets broken. This makeup bag is ingenious because all you need is safe and secure in one spot and not in 3 different bags (like me! lol). The worst experience I've had is finding all my brushes bent outta shape so I couldn't even use them. This was before I knew about the brush guard or a brush roll. Luckily I still had my fingers so I was able to hook my face & eyes up lol.

I'd love this bag because I am constantly having problems keeping my products packed away safely and neatly. Case in point, when I had to wear all ALL WHITE SUIT to a job. I stepped off my plane and quickly ran to the bathroom to refresh my makeup. When I opened the case, a mist of red toned powder and glitter bursted onto my suit. There I stood looking like a Carrie movie extra. Having a bag like this would be great! Haha. PS my blog follower name is NvrSettle.

when i travel, i usually end up stashing most, if not all, makeup stuff into one makeup bag. This method wasn't really a problem until one of my eyeshadows broke (a pearly white one!) and managed to spill into my actual suitcase! gahhhh white powder on black concert dress and suits = disaster :( and then there were times when liquids poured out everywhere...we all know this is pretty BLEGH! I travel quite often because my boyfriend's in the military so I go out to visit him frequently and this bag would save my life! (and my concert dresses)

I travel a lot because of work. One of my favorite bronzers broke when I came home! bummer. I think this product would be perfect for me since I am all around all the time.

i did not used to have an make up bag, ao when i went somewhere i just threw everything i needed to my bag to roll aroud . . and since i love really dolled up blushed look, and used one time in a clob bright red blush for it, and took rhe blush with me wor touch ups. . . you propablu guess what comes next. the blush broke to pieces, and all of the insides of my bag were covered with bright red dust. . . wallet, phone, everything.
since that i borrowed one old marimekko make up pouch from my mama to put my make up in while traveling, but if i am going to a longer trip it is way too small to hold al hw things i need, so i truly need an gold me case :p

I have to travel regularly for work and would love to win the bag so I can travel with my favourite mineral eyeshadows. The last time I took them with me, some of the jars came undone in my bag. It looked like someone had massacred a clown on my clothes!

When packing for a recent trip to florida, i realized i didn't have a large makeup bag to travel with. So i was uh... resourceful let's say and put all my makeup and brushes into a large ziplock bag. This worked until the little lock on the ziplock bag fell off and all my makeup scattered all over my suitcase. It was such a hassel diging through clothes to find all my precious makeup! I'm sure the hold me bag would prevent mishaps like this!

i have this plastic anna sui make up bag, the problem is that it moves around in my luggage and when i travel with mineral make up, the powders just shake around, and when i open the mineral make up all the powder comes out. doh! Plus it's plastic so it squishes all my brushes...sigh...

Thanks for the giveaway! My worst makeup travel story is finding cracked mac eyeshadows in my palette! I would love to win this so I don't have to pack more than 1 makeup bag when I travel!

I would like to win this bag because I am a makeup bag product junkie and this looks AMAZING! I have the broken bronzers, shadows, foundations, and everything story. But my travel disaster is that I have to always pay for checked luggage (or a 2nd) when I travel because my makeup needs its on luggage, even though I have now minimized my travel haul down into only a medium size train case with three smaller bags inside, a medium size makeup bag, a brush roll, and a bag of pallets when I travel (yes, this is minimalized!!). I can only wear my "fresh face" look for so long when I travel, which is ultra frequent....just ask Delta...I'm a Medallion member!

I hate it when I discovered that I have ruined a favorite lipstick that I pack on my makeup pouch, lose cap, and my brushes bristles are just getting ruined too, that's why, I just pack each makeup on a paper towel before putting them on my kit. such hassle and I can't see them at once when I need them.

A couple of months a ago i went to visit my parents out of town (Liverpool, UK) and it was really hard for my to back my makeup to be totally honest i my travel makeup bag cant hold much. I can be a little OCD as well i like to seperate my brush from everything else but my make up bag din't have a section for my brushes so i put them in a seperate makeup bag and by the time i got to liverpool my brushes were all squashed up the shape of most of them had changed it was annoying.

When I was going on a mini vacation with my husband, I packed my brushes with the makeup. The bristles on some of the brushes got smooshed! I'd love this travel bag so that the brushes will be protected.

When traveling I feel as if I carry everything with me especially when it comes to my makeup. I spent the weekend out of town with my boyfriend and carried more bags than ever. I want to take care of my makeup & my brushes most importantly. I have been looking for the perfect travel bag just for my makeup and brushes instead of carrying around my sigma roll. I ended up putting my makeup together with my toiletries which took me forever to sort out. I like to be organized with my things and I have yet to find a solution.

I too have been looking for a "good" makeup travel bag and have yet to find one. I currently use a Sonia kashuk small case that holds the makeup I use daily. When I travel I take that with me as well as another bag for my brushes, and other misc items. Would love to try this case out! Thanks for the giveaway!

I am traveling to Brazil this summer so this would be amazing for me to win!!! I have never really traveled with much makeup, so I don't really have a story. Although a bag checker tried to throw away my RL Romance travel size parfume. There was NO way I was letting that happen!!!

Just as kikipoo102 said - I also packed my makeup in a Ziploc zipper bag. I packed my brushes into a separate Ziploc bag as well. Never had issues with those bags before, but this last time, the seals on both came apart. The zipper part didn't break at all. I unpacked quickly so I could freshen up and meet friends in the hotel lobby, only to find my little jars of MAC pigments everywhere. I had the Ziploc bags in a LeSportsac bag but I guess those pigments are made of some fine powder, because it managed to get out the LeSportsac, too. Brushes covered in a mix of magenta and black, clothes covered in sparkle...not fun! I've tried other makeup bags that have compartments for brushes but I use all "travel size" editions of MAC and other brand brushes (don't like long handles) so they're always getting lost in the pockets. I love this one with the varied pocket heights!

GlamourbyMia said...

I usually take everything I can fit into my MAC makeup bag without it busting at the seams, everywhere I go. I almost always need to dump everything out to find a lipstick, only to discover the rest of my makeup covered in something that magically uncapped. Not to mention the seperate travel brush roll I carry bc what good is eyeshadows without the right brushes! Sigh... I hope I win!!

I was working with gold leaf and the bag if was in exploded...it basically gilded my kit...love u Ren thx. For the giveaways

phoenixrising said...

So the fix is....keep sheets/original packaging and double ziplock and press out all the air before sealing....gold leaf is worse than pigments....sticks to glass like white on rice....thx. Ren!

My makeup travel items kinda suck. When I drive somewhere I use my great grandma's old makeup case it doesn't have any pockets and its so big that it ends up making a mess if I'm not super careful Last time I went on vacation it spilled like a 30 dollar hair oil all over my makeup (yeah not very happy) But when I go on a plane I cant use that makeup case so it ends up going in a little baggy. Which usually doesn't fit alot or it spills. The reason I want this case is for two reasons: one I am going to college in the fall and a little makeup case would be great because I'm not going to have a lot of room to store my makeup (right now I use plastic drawers) and it would be great because then I could easily move it. The other reason is because my family is going to cruise for my grandparents 50 wedding anniversary and I would love a portable makeup case so I can look great at the stuff on the cruise! Thanks so much!

I always throw everything I need into my over sized makeup bag and my blushes and eyeshadows ALWAYS end up smashing my eyeliner caps or knocking them off. I can't tell you how many times i've stuck my hand in my bag, dug around to find a lip gloss, and pulled out my hand covered in tons of black liner. To make matters worse, sometimes i dont notice that my fingers have eyeliner smudged on them so I touch my face and end up with black smudges all over my cheeks. Not pretty.

i have lots of disasters wif my beauty stuffs >.< such a klutz
1) i thought my skin would be dry on the flight, so i hand carried my giorgio armani body lotion 200ml and totally forgot about the rule, so the whole bottle got chuck in the bin ACK!
2) hair gel was not packed separately in a plastic bag, so it was all over my mu brushes, e/s palettes, pencils, etc
3) i dont have a brush container, so everytime i travel, my kabuki brush got flatten out sob sob

my worst packing disaster was when i had gone to orlando with friends on a school trip and one of my lipglosses exploded in my bag. luckily i only had a few other lipglosses in there so it wasnt too bad to clean up. unfortunately i could never use that lipgloss again and it's discontinued. :( this seems like a great way to hold brushes since i can't think of anything to put them in

I don't have a bag to fit all my makeup and brushes in.. I use 2 seperate bags (one for face products and another for lips) and I hate the fact that I gotta put my brushes in with the rest of the makeup.. And I have been lookin for a bag that has a special place for brushes..
