Brush Organizer Makeover

Hi Bellas,

Today's post features makeup organization.  I have a quick entry showing a new product I use to organize my personal makeup brushes.  Most of you probably have heard of or even use the Sephora Inspired Brush Holder originally created by Enkore Makeup. I had been using this method on and off for a while now, but found that it was falling short for my personal brush situation.

I like to keep my personal brushes separate from the brushes in my kit. I keep my pro brushes organized my brush roll if it's in a set, and then individual brushes in my two brush aprons.  Once you accumulate enough brushes as an artist, it's a good idea to set some aside for personal use.  I find it much easier to keep it separate so that I don't have to worry about switching in and out and it's more sanitary that way.  I'm OCD about cleaning my pro brushes after every single use, but with my personal brushes I default to quick brush cleansing by the week and deep cleaning every few weeks depending on use.

Here are my brushes before.  I used a clear square container and vase filler beads from Michaels.  It was a bit too small for my brushes to the point that the beads would always come out when I took out brushes.  Morever, the plastic gets a cloudy look to it and can crack easily.

In my home studio, I like to organize my makeup with a lot of hard, clear pastic containers from Office Max.  Clear is a requirement for me so that I can find things easily.  I also like the tougher, unbreakable plastic items because they don't crack and last so much longer.  Here's a pencil/desk organizer I ordered from Office Max.  As you can see, it also has separate compartments.

Here is the after version.  As you can see, my brushes have a lot more room. No more cramming brushes together, damaging the bristles and handles.  I can also spot brushes out much easier.  I organize them by putting face brushes in the back row, mini/travel brushes in the smaller compartment, and eye brushes in the medium size compartment.  The plastic is nice and thick and really durable.  It also matches the storage in my makeup studio really nicely.

There are tons of products out there especially in the home office/organization aisles of your local Target, Wal-Mart, Office Max, etc.  Think outside the box and find one that fits your own needs and style.

Till next time, Ciao Bellas!
