We all know that Thanksgiving dinner is the time of year when family and friends gather around the table to share a meal and give thanks. But let's be honest, it's also a time to show off your carefully curated outfit - and that includes your makeup! So, what is the perfect makeup for Thanksgiving dinner?


The perfect makeup for Thanksgiving dinner is all about balance. You want to look polished and put together, but not like you're trying too hard.

Choose warm, cozy shades for the eyes. Tis the season for oranges, burgundies and golds. Keep it simple with one shade on your entire lid and detail out the eyes with liner and mascara.



Think healthy skin - if your skin color is getting a bit paler, add color back to your face with a bit of bronzer and blush. A good concealer goes a long way in making you look fresh and awake no matter how much sleep you got. We love blush/bronzer duos like this one from NARS.


As for the lips, think about what will last through food and drink. A my lips but better shade will fade naturally into your own lip color. If you're feeling festive, you can go for a beautiful burgundy or wine tone. The trick is to fill in your lips with a matching lip pencil so that even as your lipstick fades, you'll still have a stain from the dryer lip pencil underneath.

Hi Bellas!

It's been another crazy day at work so I thought I'd leave you with a quick post. A few weeks ago, one of my lovely YouTube viewers contacted me requesting a makeup lesson. Half of my gigs are actually makeup lessons for both everyday makeup wearers as well as aspiring makeup artists. I love doing these because it's always a good feeling to help others learn and embrace the craft.

My client was interesting in creating a look for a wedding she was intending. I always request the clients to bring their makeup bag and brushes to make sure they know how to use their products to create the look. There's no point in using my products when they don't own them.

We had two options: a green or a purple look. I ended up only taking pictures of the green look but both looked great!

Each time I have a client, I try to take some jewels of wisdom and add it to my makeup knowledge bank. Here are a few highlights from the lesson which I hope you all can benefit from as well:

1) If you go to a MAC counter for help...make sure they try the product on you. If you get a snobby artist...ask for someone else or go to another counter. The truth is...in the makeup business, there are a lot of snooty people out there. However, this is a service industry and you should be able to get great service. I hate when people think they're better than you just because they work at a certain cosmetics brand or even a clothing retail store...to me, it doesn't make sense. They're in the service industry to serve others not to stand there with a superiority complex. Many brands have a return policy even for used cosmetics - just make sure to bring it back with a receipt within the allotted time frame. If you don't like it...return it. And don't feel pressured to by something just because someone pressures you. You guys know what i'm talking about!

2) If your skin is starting to mature and you start to notice those fine lines especially around your eyes and on your eye lid...avoid frosty, super shimmery eye shadows. They only accentuate the lines even more and make you look order. Instead, stick with mattes or satins with a slight sheen.

3) Don't be afraid to experiment! Try going through your makeup stash and practice pairing different colors together. You'll get a lot more miles out of your makeup that way then sticking to the same combinations.

With that said, here are pictures from the lesson. I didn't get a chance to take a before and after but at least I got the latter!

Update on MAC DSquared Collection:
FYI, yesterday I went to MAC and was able to pick up a few items from the DSquared Collection. I picked up the blue and violet greasepaint sticks as well as two of the Feline Kohl Pencils (I love these limited edition pencils!). I also went back and picked up Blue Flame Mineralized Eyeshadow and Baby Goth Girl Nailpolish from the Style Black collection...luckily I was able to snatch the second to last ones! I wore the Dsquared blue greasepaint stick as a look last night on top of my Steelo Base and it didn't smudge at all. I'll post pics soon!

Makeup Lessons
Meanwhile, the other week I had a chance to have makeup lessons with one of my YouTube viewers. I offer this service to others so that they can utilize the items in their own makeup bag and learn the basic steps of makeup. That way, they can go home and practice and master makeup on their own. I also offer this service to aspiring makeup artists who are trying to learn the ins and outs of the business.

My client today was absolutely gorgeous. She didn't need a lot of makeup but she did want help concealing her undereye circles. She actually had some good products in her kit...MAC orange corrector and Amazing Cosmetics concealer. I asked her to apply the product and then I showed her my method. If you really want to cover those undereye circles, it's important to follow these simple steps.

Steps to Concealing Dark Circles
1) Moisturize with eye cream to prep the skin (night and day)
2) Pat on orange/peach based corrector using a sythentic concealer brush. Use only a little product, but make sure to really tap on top of the darkest area, being careful not to lift up any product.
3) Pat a concealer a bit lighter than your own skin tone on top of the corrector. Use the same patting motion. If you need to, you can use your fingers to help blend...the heat from your fingers will warm up the product and help it sink into the skin. However, be careful not to remove any of the product. If you want, you can mix a bit of luminzer with the concealer like MAC's strobe cream to give the area a light reflecting look.
4) Set the undereye area with a light powder to make sure it stays all day.

We used my client's exact same products and were able to work wonders. Sometimes it's all about technique.

In terms of the rest of the makeup, my client actually mainly stuck to concealing undereye circles and maybe a little bit of mascara. Eyeshadow was new to her and she wanted to stick to a neutral look that she could still wear for the evening.

I showed her how to create a basic bronze smokey eye. Here are the steps:
1) Apply eye base to the entire lid, from lashline to browbone.
2) Apply your color of choice to the inner half of the lid, staying under the crease.
3) Apply a darker color to the outer half of the lid, staying under the crease. Make sure to keep the outer V shape.
4) Take a lighter color and place it on the brow bone to highlight the eye.
5) Apply black liner to top and bottom, and smudge it with a pencil brush that has a bit of black shadow on it to create a smokey effect. By smoking out the line, you don't have to worry about having a perfectly straight liner application.
6) Apply mascara and that's it!



She looks gorgeous! I applied makeup to one side of her face and she did the other...she did a great job.

Sorry for the lack of posts. As mentioned in my previous entry I was out of town from Thursday Morning to late Sunday night. I went to New York and Connecticut for a bachelorette party, shopping, and a wedding. It was crazy but so much fun.

I wasn’t able to get out any videos before then like I planned. Instead I had two photo shoots that turned out fabulous. I’ll post pics soon.

While I unpack and get caught up on my emails and blogging, I’ll show you guys the makeover I did last weekend.


Here's my original post:

I did a makeup lesson this past weekend. My client is celebrating an upcoming 50th birthday bash in Jamaica and wanted to kick it up a notch with her makeup. She tends to use mineral makeup and a dark red lipstick and light gold eyeshadow. I wanted to still give her a mature look but try something a bit different.

I decided to use a warmer gold tone--amber lights e/s, and combined it with carbon e/s from MAC to give her a smokey look. I used her own revlon light cream/gold eyeshadow as a highlighter. Whenever I do makeup lessons on my clients, I try to use as many of their products as possible, showing them how to use them and incorporate other products and colors as well. Instead of a bright red/magenta lip, I lightened up her lips by using bateaux l/g from M.A.C's Naughty Nauticals line.

I noticed that her concealer was the wrong shade...it gave her an ashy look. The key with darker skin tones is to match the undertones of your skin.

So without further ado, before and after :) She was great before, and even better after.
