Back-to-School Makeup Tips: Get Ready for a Fresh Start!

Hi Bellas,

As the summer days come to an end and the school year approaches, it’s the perfect time to refresh your makeup routine! Whether you're heading to college or high school, looking your best can boost your confidence and make a great impression. Here are some essential back-to-school makeup tips to help you look fabulous and feel ready for the new year!

1. Start with Skincare

Before diving into makeup, ensure your skin is well-prepped. A good skincare routine helps your makeup go on smoothly and last longer. Cleanse, treat and moisturize, and apply sunscreen daily to protect your skin.   If you're not sure where to start, pick up a starter skincare kit for your skin type - normal, dry, oily or combo.  This ELF Skincare Set has everything you need at an affordable price.

2. Find Your 5 Minute Routine

Back-to-school makeup should be something you can do quickly even when you're just a little sleepy.  An ideal back to school look enhances your features without being too heavy. A tinted moisturizer or sunscreen can provide coverage while allowing your skin to breathe. Finish with a touch of concealer for any blemishes or dark circles and a bit of setting powder to lock it in.  This Missha BB cream is perfect for daily wear. I've worn it personally and it's become an icon for a reason.

3. Play with Color

While natural looks are great, don’t shy away from adding a pop of color! Pro Tip - Find one color that you can pop on your cheeks, eyes and lips!  This monochromatic look is so chic but also a no brainer.  I recommend a product like Danessa Myricks Blurring Balm Powder that can multi-task and goes on as a cream for easy blend, but sets into a powder to last all day.

4. Choose Long-Lasting Products

With busy school days ahead, opt for long-lasting and waterproof makeup products. Look for smudge-proof mascara, setting sprays, and lip products that won’t require constant touch-ups throughout the day.  If you haven't switched over to tubing mascara yet, you're missing out.  It lasts longer and it's so much easier to remove at the end of the day.  The Tartelette Tubing Mascara is my go to and I also recommend switching to a brown mascara for a daytime friendly look.

5. Accessorize with Lip Color

A great lip color can elevate your entire look! Tints and stains are perfect for staying power and feeling comfy.  If you're in a pinch, pop a little on cheeks for quick blush.  The ELF Blush Tint is perfect for that popsicle stained lip effect.

6. Get Organized

To ensure you have everything you need, put your daily use items in a place that you can see and reach for quickly.  I recommend a clear acrylic makeup organizer like the one pictured below from Amazon, where you can put everything including your brushes.  Then, grab a wipeable makeup bag and throw your touch up items in there so you can reapply for the day - I recommend blotting sheets and an extra lip product.
