Hi Bellas,
Mornings can be hectic, especially when school is back in full swing. Between snoozing your alarm one too many times and rushing to get out the door, finding time for an elaborate makeup routine can feel impossible. That’s why we're here to show you how to create a quick, natural makeup look in just 5 minutes. The best part? Less is more—this routine will enhance your natural beauty and help you look fresh-faced and ready to crush the day.
Plus, don’t forget, great makeup starts with great skin. Prioritizing skincare is the secret to a flawless, glowing complexion. Let's jump right into the essentials!
1. Start with Skincare (1 Minute)
Think of skincare as the foundation for your makeup. When your skin is hydrated and healthy, you’ll need less product for that radiant, fresh-faced look. Here’s a simple routine to prep your canvas:
- Cleanse: Use a gentle cleanser to remove excess oil or impurities from the night before.
- Moisturize: Apply a lightweight, hydrating moisturizer to keep your skin smooth and plump. Don't forget to moisturize your lips with a balm - I love Aquaphor.
- SPF Is Non-Negotiable: Protect your skin with a daily sunscreen. Choose one with a lightweight texture that doubles as a primer for your makeup.
- Save the treatments for night - exfoliation, serums, etc to shorten your routine.
Product suggestion: Look for a tinted moisturizer with SPF to combine hydration, sun protection, and light coverage in one step.
2. Even Out Your Skin Tone (1 Minute)
Full-coverage foundation during school days? Not necessary! Instead, opt for something more natural to even out your complexion.
- BB Cream or Tinted Sunscreen: These are lightweight, easy to apply with your fingers, and give just the right amount of coverage. Bonus points if they have skincare benefits.
- Conceal Strategically: Dab a bit of creamy concealer under your eyes to brighten dark circles or on any blemishes for added coverage. Blend with your fingertips for a seamless finish.
Product suggestion: Try an all-in-one skin tint with hydrating properties. The IT Cosmetics CC Cream is a great classic option with a high level of SPF and great coverage.
3. Add a Pop of Color to Your Cheeks (30 Seconds)
Blush is your best friend when you want to look awake and fresh. A creamy blush adds a natural flush and doubles as a lip tint!
- Smile slightly and dab a bit of cream blush on the apples of your cheeks. Blend upwards toward your cheekbones using your fingers or a sponge.
Product suggestion: Grab a cream or stick blush - it's easier to blend and lasts longer! I love the Milk Makeup Cooling Water Jelly Tints - they last all day and can be used on the cheeks and lips.
4. Define Your Brows (1 Minute)
Brows frame your face, and you don’t need to spend ages perfecting them. A quick swipe of brow gel will groom and define them in seconds.
- Opt for a tinted brow gel to add color and volume. For fuller-looking brows, brush the gel against the direction of hair growth first, then smooth them into place.
Product suggestion: A clear brow gel works perfectly if you want a subtler look that is almost impossible to mess up. I'm loving the new Maybelline Super Lock Brow Gel Glue right now and use it in my pro kit.
5. Brighten Up Your Eyes (1 Minute)
Even if you’re feeling tired, this simple step will make you look more awake.
- Mascara is Key: Curl your lashes for an instant lift and apply one or two coats of mascara.
- Skip Heavy Eyeliner: Instead, tightline your upper lash line with a brown pencil for soft definition.
- Pop Some Blush Or Bronze in Your Crease - This one shade will brighten and define your eyes.
Product suggestion: Look for a tubing mascara that won’t smudge during a busy school day but is super easy to remove at night. I love the ELF Lash XTNDR version because it's so affordable and a great dupe for the high end brands.
6. Finish with a Tinted Lip Product (30 Seconds)
A swipe of tinted lip balm or a lightweight gloss will pull everything together. Look for a formula that keeps your lips hydrated and has a subtle tint to bring some color to your lips but won't require extra time and precision to apply.
Product suggestion: Choose a lip stain for a long lasting color. I'm loving the CoverGirl Outlast Markers. Tip - store it with cap facing down to get even color application. My favorite color is Sugey Girl.
Quick Tips to Keep in Mind
- Pack Smart: Keep your essentials—like lip balm and blotting papers—handy in your bag for quick touch-ups throughout the day.
- Stay Hydrated: Drinking water is one of the easiest ways to keep your skin glowing.
- Don’t Overdo It: Remember, the goal is a fresh, natural look. Keep it simple!
With this 5-minute routine, you’ll walk into school glowing, confident, and ready to tackle the day—even if you hit snooze a few too many times. Happy back-to-school season! 🎒
