I'm not afraid to admit that I honestly suck at putting on underlash extensions. They're so popular and as a Pro Makeup Artist I'm determined to master them. I've struggled over the lash year trying to apply them on myself and I'm always on the hunt for a product that seemed easy and durable. I had the opportunity to try out a DIY Underlash Extensios kit from FlutterHabit so I thought it would be a good time to give it another go. Here's my honest review from application to wear time.
Applying lashes has always been a daunting task for me. I've got a monolid that likes to "eat lashes" as I say, so it's always been tricky for me to apply undereye lash clusters. I’ve tried various methods and products, but they usually end up being a frustrating experience. However, I wanted to try the new FlutterHabit systems since it seemed pretty simple and since they've recently partnered with Sephora I knew they would be high quality. I like how they laid out the clusters for me in a full strip lash style so that I knew where to place each section. The pre-glued design actually was super easy to apply. I used the lash tweezers to remove them from the case - they came off easily unlike some other self-stick lashes that are almost impossible to remove. Then I applied them underneath my lashes - attaching them at the root of my lash above the waterline. They were sticky enough to attach to my eye and stay on. It took me about 5 minutes to apply.
Lasting Power
The first day I was unsure how I felt about them - I could feel them on my ways. I adjusted them a few times so they felt a little more comfy. And by day 2-3 I was completely used to it. I wore them for four days without any issues. And this lasted through, sleep, shower, washing face with makeup on and even through a major sob session after watching a movie. On the last night, I noticed some of the clusters started to lift so that's when I used FlutterHabit's Lash Off remover spray to remove them. I spritzed the oil on my eyes and gently massage them into the lash line and they came off easily. I actually put the clusters back in the box because I can reapply them later using glue since the stickiness wore off.
The Look
I used The FlutterHabbit Pre-Glued DIY Underlash Extensions Kit - The Sweetheart. They're described as the classic, rounded flare in black and range from 11-13mm. I found the lashes really did perk up my appearance even without having makeup on. On an everyday basis, I felt the lashes were a smidge long, so I used my lash scissors to trim them a bit and they were perfect. Nobody even mentioned that I had that on, so I think they were natural enough for everyday. I'd definitely wear these for something like vacation when I want to look cute but don't want the inconvenience of applying a full lash.
A Great Alternative to Lash Extensions
For those who might be hesitant about the commitment of lash extensions, individual lash clusters are the way to go. They offer the convenience of having your lashes on without the hassle of regular maintenance or the expense associated with lash extensions. I've personally had lash extensions twice before and they honestly drove me crazy - they flipped around, poked me in the eye and were so hard to remove. I'd prefer a shorter term lash that I can remove on my own and can do at home on my own time.
